Four deserts, four parks
Softly undulating savannah scenery, massive plateau mountains,
sandy dry riverbeds, gravel plains, reddish seas of sand.
Welcome to Namibia, the driest country south of the Sahara. |
 |
 |
 |
| Namibia is a desert
country, or rather, a country of four deserts: the Kalahari
as part of the tree and shrub savannah, the Nama Karoo, the
Succulent Karoo and the Namib. Their common denominator is
scarce rains, temperatures of up to 45 degrees and intense
evaporation. |
 |
 |
 |
| But they offer an
incredible diversity of scenery and habitats. Here, rain comes
in summer, there, in winter; here it is both, and there it
is neither. One coastal tract relies on fog moisture. Many
plants and animals are endemic, as they have created their
own niche by adapting to the specific conditions over millions
of years. |

 |
 |
| In the four parks
of the Gondwana Desert Collection you can acquaint yourself
with the four deserts and their varied forms of life. Each
park offers reasonably-priced accommodation for every taste.
And, by the way, with your stay you also make a valuable contribution
towards conserving the delicate habitats. |
