Desert Parks at the Indaba in Durban - 15.05.06
"Interest in the nature reserves of the Gondwana Desert Collection was even more pronounced this time than it was last year." This is the conclusion of Marketing Manager Miriam Spatz after the four-day Indaba tourism fair in the South African port city of Durban. "Many professional visitors had arranged an appointment with us in advance, especially operators from South Africa and Great Britain."

According to Spatz, visitors to the stand were particularly taken with the pictures of Namib Desert Lodge (in Gondwana Namib Park) and Kalahari Anib Lodge (in Gondwana Kalahari Park) – two of the Gondwana group's accommodation centres which were refurbished and extended last year. "Those we spoke to were also quite impressed with the excellent value for money which our lodges offer."

Together with Managing Director Mannfred Goldbeck the Marketing Manager was at the Indaba to introduce new developments within the Gondwana Desert Collection.
After completing the lodges in the Namib and Kalahari it is now the turn of Klein-Aus Vista (in Gondwana Sperrgebiet Rand Park) to extend the accommodation facilities. The lodge will soon be an ideal stopover for smaller travel groups. Cañon Lodge (in Gondwana Cañon Park) is busy renovating, and the chalets are being refurbished to become even more luxurious.

The Four Deserts Route Namibia was also introduced once again at this fair. The route will enable travellers to experience the four deserts in southern Namibia more intensely. As an important element of the new attraction several information centres are in the pipeline – with displays, café & restaurant, clean toilets and petrol station. The first of these is Aus Info Centre which is scheduled to open in July.

At the Indaba the Gondwana Desert Collection was one of more than 30 exhibitors from Namibia. "Co-operation among ourselves was fantastic", Miriam Spatz said. "All of us did a great job promoting Namibia. And the joint stand of the Namibia Tourism Board even won a prize for its appealing design."

The Indaba was held from 6 to 9 May. Attended by representatives of travel companies from all over the world, it is the most significant trade fair for destinations in southern Africa.
