Goldbeck was awarded the title 'HAN Tourism Personality 2005' last Saturday at the festive gala evening of the Hospitality Association of Namibia (HAN). The choice of this year’s personality had not been a difficult one, HAN Chairman Willem de Wet said in the presence of about 300 members of the association and invited guests. As the Vice-Chairman of HAN Goldbeck had been totally dedicated to the BBEE Charta (Broad-based Black Economic Empowerment), de Wet said. The Charta, which contains a catalogue of possible steps towards broad-based support of disadvantaged Namibians, was discussed and adopted by representatives from all branches of the travel sector at the Tourism Forum in November last year.
HAN also acknowledged Goldbeck’s involvement in restructuring the association. Whereas HAN members were part of regional groups so far, groups were reorganised according to sectors at the congress last week: (1) hotels and guest houses, (2) lodges, (luxury) tented lodges and tented camps, (3) guest farms, (4) bed & breakfast, boarding houses and backpackers’ accommodation, (5) rest camps, camping sites and caravan parks as well as (6) restaurants, conference facilities, catering businesses, marketing companies and bookings offices. The aim is to streamline the different interests of members by category and to attract companies which are not members yet.
