Tireless Campaigning for Travelling Namibia - 20.12.04
Even the best product will only sell when marketed well. This is particularly true for tourism. Marketing is costly and few are able to handle it on their own. So much more reason for Namibia’s travel sector to look back with appreciation to June 1993 when Travel News Namibia was first issued. Since then TNN has made a tremendous impact domestically and abroad, with a current print run of 15.000 and distribution in more than 70 countries.
The soul and driving force behind it is Riéth van Schalkwyk, wife of publisher Paul van Schalkwyk. As the editor-in-chief she is tirelessly searching for novel ways of marketing Namibia, the travel destination (e.g., in 1994 she introduced the classified directory Namibia Holiday & Travel, and in 1999 the travel fair Namibia Holiday & Travel Expo in Windhoek). And she is always prepared to support newcomers.
The October 1996 issue with Gondwana Cañon Park featuring on the cover.
We are no exception: already in October 1996, just before the Cañon Lodge was inaugurated, she featured the creation of Gondwana Cañon Park on the cover. That article, by the way, contains our aims and principles which are still valid today.
We would like to extend our most sincere thanks to Riéth van Schalkwyk and her team for the support which we received and on our part pledge our continuing loyalty to the Travel News.
Editor-in-Chief Riéth van Schalkwyk.
