Gondwana Partner voted Personality 2006 - 23.11.06
The General Manager of Klein-Aus Vista/Gondwana Sperrgebiet Rand Park has been voted Personality of the Year 2006 by the Hospitality Association of Namibia (HAN). He thus follows in the footsteps of the Managing Director of the Gondwana Desert Collection, Mannfred Goldbeck, who was awarded the title in 2005. This year's winner was announced last Saturday at the annual HAN Gala Evening at the Safari Court Hotel in Windhoek. Explaining his association's choice, HAN Chairman Willem de Wet emphasized Swiegers' "commitment to reviving Aus", his "contribution to the sector's 'Transformation Charta'" [BBEE, support for previously disadvantaged Namibians] and "his distinct sense for nature conservation with which he decisively contributes to the preservation of the 'Hotspot' Aus." The area around of Aus is characterised by an extraordinary diversity of plants and animals.

The accommodation establishment Klein-Aus Vista in Gondwana Sperrgebiet Rand Park is one of the main employers in Aus. Klein Aus Vista also started the initiative to establish the Aus Information Centre and saw to its realization with the support of its partners in the Gondwana Desert Collection. In his speech of thanks Piet Swiegers called upon the sector to support initiatives for communities like the one in Aus so that all population groups can benefit from tourism.
